Mudlarks – Cooks River Bird Survey – 12 August 2025

I took part in the early morning Mudlarks Bird Survey, along the Cooks River. This month, the group surveyed downstream, from the Lang Street Bridge to Marrickville Golf Course and Wave Rock, and then back.

Here are some birds saw –

Little Black Cormorant

Dusky Moorhen

Little Corella

Rainbow Lorikeet

Galahs

Magpie Lark

Golden Whistler

Welcome Swallow

Crested Pigeon

Little Black Cormorant

One of pair of Tawny Frogmouths

White-faced Heron

After the survey, the group had morning tea at Ewen Park. Then I walked up the river to Canterbury Road. Here are a few more birds I saw along the way –

Grey Butcherbird 

Striated Heron
