Greenway Bird Survey – 13 August 2025

We had a very pleasant morning survey along the Hawthorne Canal section of the Greenway. The Sun was out!

This makes a big difference with the birds seen at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station, where we saw a small flock of Spotted Pardalotes foraging in the Eucalypts.

But, not noticed during the survey, but only when I looked at my photos afterwards on computer, I saw there was at least one Striated Pardalote amongst the flock –

Striated Pardalotes are very rare birds in the Inner West of Sydney.

Lower down, it was relatively quiet. Here is a Brush Turkey

Near Marion St, a Magpie

And a Magpie Lark

Superb Fairy-wren

Willie Wagtail

Striated Heron

The survey finished and we had morning tea at the Dog area. After this, as I was walking to the Light Rail Station, I heard commotion almost the birds, and looked up and spotted a Pacific Baza.

I then headed to Malabar Headland for the rest of the day.
