More Putty Road Aboriginal Art – 23 October 2025

Both Bob and myself were keen to visit some more Aboriginal art sites near the Putty Road. On this day, we visited two art sites and also two sites featuring sharpening grooves.

Site 1

The first site we visited was not too far from the road, and sounded interesting. It was large rock outcrop that had engravings and also there was a small overhang under one side of the outcrop that had some more art.

But, when we arrived at the outcrop, we found the engravings very hard to find and then discern. Here Bob is looking at an engraving of a macropod –

And the cave art was very faint. This was the best panel and features a striped marsupial –

These small circular depressions nearby in the cave seem man made –

There was also some scratch marks. Possibly graffiti?

The use of the stretching software did not help very much.

Here is Bob in the small cave.

Back to the outcrop. Here are some grooves –

And a stone arrangement –

This is thought to be a macropod tail. Part of larger engraving that is now no longer visible.

And back to the large macropod engraving –

It was not a good time of the year to look at faint engravings. The high sun does not help. If the rock was wet after rain then the engravings may be a lot easier to see.

The next three sites were grouped close to each other.

Site 2

Here are some sharpening grooves –

Site 3

This was a surprisingly good art cave. It featured two very large and clear kangaroo motifs in charcoal.

There is more art here, but not very clear –

In white ochre is a large shape – perhaps a snake.

And in front of the kangaroos are some humans with arms outstretched motifs –

The art is well protected at the back of the cave –

Now trying some iDStretching –

Site 4

More faint sharpening grooves not far from the cave –
