Birds on the Cliffs of Kurnell – 10 November 2025

I travelled to Kurnell with Valerie and Sue and we then walked to along the coastal cliffs of Kamay-Botany Bay National Park.

Our aim was to look for birds, and also wild flowers (in particular Flannel Flowers which are often very good in this area) and also any whales of dolphins that passed by.

The first bird I photographed was this nice Australian Pipit –

Eroded Sandstone

Coastal Cliffs

Then this Reef Egret landed on the rock platform far below. It has a fish.

Another Australian Pipit –

Flannel Flowers

We were probably about 2 weeks to late – they were far from their best.

Australian Pipit –

Nankeen Kestrel

The Kestrel had a Jacky Dragon

But the Kestrel’s partner grabbed the lizard and flew off with it – presumably to a nest.

We spent a fair bit of time watching the Kestrel.

A Raven came down close to where were sitting – perhaps it was after some of our lunch? But then one of the Kestrels flew at it at high speed and forced it away.

After a bit more walking, we spotted some Peregrine Falcon chicks.

A parent as on patrol.

Hmm…. one chick poos on its sibblings.

Pipit

And the last bird we saw was this Red-capped Plover
