I headed back to Ferndale Park at Chatswood to look for any new fungi. I ended up spending an interesting morning there.
There seemed to be a fair bit more of the pink waxcap out.
As well, I found some interesting green-orange waxcaps. On the previous trip I had found some like this, but on this visit, that patch had gone. The new ones were fresher and hidden behind a log. One of them looked like Humidicutis helicoides, with green cap, gills and stipe. But another next to it had an unusual orange stipe. Also – they did not fit with Hygrocybe arcohastata, which goes through a green stage, or Hygrocybe aurantipes which has a green cap. It may be that this green-orange stage is an early form of the pink waxcap. Perhaps this is a variant of Gliophorus psitticinus? That species starts of a viscid dark green colour and then changes to orange. This one may start off a dark green and change to pink. More observations are needed.
Also at Ferndale Park were a lot of other waxcaps. Here are some examples –
And some of the other fungi –
