Another hot day was forecast, but I was keen to head outdoors for the morning, when it was cooler, so I decided to visit the Boat Harbour area on the Cooks River, where there is nice shade and often a cool breeze.

There was a low tide, so I was hoping that the Little Heron would again be hunting in the Boat Harbour.
While walking from Canterbury Road, I spotted a Great Egret fly upstream and land on a shallow part of the riverbed.

Not that many birds were at the Boat Harbour at the start.

Then the Little Heron appeared –

It spent a lot of time hunting for fish, but didn’t seem to be having much success.

I could see from ripples that there were a lot of fish around.

The Little Heron then tried its luck from a high perch.

It then decided to fly over to the far side of the River.

A Pelican then entered the Boat Harbour.

It caught a coffee cup!

On the way back to the bus stop on Canterbury Road, I saw a family of Dusky Moorhens –

And a juvenile Little Heron in the mangroves near Cup and Saucer Creek –
