I spent a very pleasant day, with Valerie and Sue wandering upstream along the Cooks River from Tempe to Canterbury. Along the way we spotted many nice birds. The highlight, perhaps, was spotting two Satin Bowerbirds.

Here are some of my photos, starting from near Tempe. Crossing over the river from Tempe Station, we spotted a juvenile Little Heron flying across the River. We later located it perched in the mangroves.

This Magpie Lark appears to be sitting on a nest. A bit late in the nesting season perhaps?

We then left Gough Whitlam Park. On this visit e had to spotted the resident Tawny Frogmouths or any Sacred Kingfishers.
Further upstream, a little up from Illawarra Road we spotted another juvenile Little Heron.

Little Black Cormorant

We had been walking on the Golf Course side of the river, and we crossed on the footbridge near the clubhouse over into Beaman Park. We continued a short distance upstream and then had a rest on a park bench in the shade. While resting, we spotted two Satin Bowerbirds nearby.

Also nearby, were a pair of Eastern Rosellas –

We continued upstream through Ewen Park, without spotting any interesting birds. We stopped for another break at the Boat Harbour.

Masked Lapwings

At the junction with Cup and Saucer Creek, we spotted another juvenile Little Heron.

Then two Great Egrets flew downstream.

And one last photo of the Little Heron –
