I spent a pleasant and interesting afternoon at Barton Park and Landing Lights Wetland photographing birds.
When I arrived, I spotted a raptor flying over the wetland area –
Then I photographed some Welcome Swallows hunting for insects.
At Landing Lights Wetland, I spotted the usual Pied Stilts –
And a Great Egret –
Before heading into the mangrove area, I spotted this Laughing Kookaburra –
Some birds in the mangroves –

This pair of Grey Fantails seemed to be having a call competition.
I then left the wetland area, and spotted the Great Egret hunting in the Spring Street Canal.
Then I spotted the raptor I had seen earlier again. There were a pair of them flying quite high. I was able to identify them now – they were two Swamp Harriers (but both were darker than the Swamp Harrier I had seen on an earlier visit).
One of the Swamp Harriers flew down near the wetlands and was harassed by an Australian Raven.
The Swamp Harrier escaped its tormenter.

Next was an interesting encounter between some Magpies –
I finished my visit back at the wetlands.

And a Royal Spoonbill had arrived –
