It was time for the monthly bird survey in Wolli Creek Regional Park (from Girrahween Park to the Flying Fox Camp and back). Our group is one of 7 that do monthly surveys in the park, as part of the wider activities of The Wolli Creek Preservation Society.

This survey turned out to be interesting, as I will show. We also heard a number of birds that I was not able to photograph including Scarlet Honeyeaters.
Olive Backed Oriole

New Holland Honeyeater

Nearby was evidence of Bandicoots. They make a distinctive angled conical hole when they dig for truffles.

Crested Pigeon

A Water Dragon started to swim across Wolli Creek –

It was then harassed by a Willie Wagtail –

Grey Butcherbird

Pied Currawong

White Browed Scrubwren

And then one of the group, Michael, spotted a Ring Tailed Possum –

More bandicoot digging –

Laughing Kookaburra

We had heard the call of a Sacred Kingfisher on the walk down the track. On the way back we spotted it –

And we spotted the Ring Tailed Possum again –

And the Cymbidium suave orchid near the picnic tables was doing well –
