Sassafras Gully Fungi – 26 May 2017

This was an excellent trip down Sassafras Gully looking for fungi. I was accompanied by Liz, whose powers of observation located many interesting species.

We entered the valley via the track at the end of Sassafras Gully Road and returned via the Wiggins Track. We walked as far as the junction with Glenbrook Creek. 

Before the Victory Track junction I was keen to see if more Gomphus were out. This strange species has appeared on a bank next to the track earlier in the season and also last year. No more was present in the original location, but Liz found an excellent cluster a little higher up.

I was hoping for a lot of waxcaps to be to – and in this, my hopes were fulfilled. Here are some of what we found –
