Mill Creek Fungi – 27 May 2017

This was a field activity of The Sydney Fungal Studies Group Inc. It had been rescheduled from the previous Saturday after an adverse weather forecast. Mill Creek is a tributary of the Hawkesbury River and the area is within Dharug National Park.

On the day, we found a fair amount of interesting fungi.

For me, the highlight was seeing an interesting species of cup fungi that I have never seen before. This is Aleuria rhenana.

Another species that we observed that was very unusual was three large white clubs emerging from the base of a tree. They were all quite large – perhaps 8 cm long and 3 cm thick. Later this fungus was extracted and dissected and it seem to be a species of Xylaria.

We also found a fair number of waxcaps –

And some of the other fungi –

And we found some nice orchids –

More photos together with identifications are online here on my website.
