This was supposed to be an afternoon whale watching trip – and while I did spot quite a few whales, they were all a long way to to sea and were not good photographic subjects.
However, the locality provided a good subject, especially when some nice stormy clouds arrived later in the afternoon.
I travelled to Watsons Bay by ferry and then walked the short distance to The Gap. I climbed up to the highest point near the naval base and started looking for whales.
Later I walked back down to Camp Cove and then along the track to South Head and Hornby Lighthouse.
I then walked back and up to the high point above The Gap again. Not many more whales, but the light was quite nice with some storm clouds around. A little rain fell – but not enough for me to beat a retreat. Then a nice rainbow appeared out in the sea.
I had more nice lighting on the ferry trip back to the city.
