Birds at Centennial Park – 4 September 2018

I spent most of this day at Centennial Park looking for and photographing the birds.

I did try and find the Powerful Owls – but not with any success. They seemed to have moved from where they were close to their nest. In that area, I saw a Currawong struggle to grab an insect –

I did spot one of the Barn Owls.

I also located the Tawny Frogmouth nest – one of the pair was sitting on the nest – possibly with a chick? I spotted the other parent in a separate tree, not too far away.

Nearby, I saw a Laughing Kookaburra fly up into a tree with something in its beak. I moved closer as saw it had a rather large lizard. It then banged its beak against the branch a few times, and then repeated this several times over a period of time. But I didn’t  see the bird eat the lizard despite waiting close by for twenty minutes or so.

In one of the pools, I saw a Turtle sitting on a stump. This is the first time I have seen them in the park, although I would have assume they would be present.

And some of the other birds –

Willie Wagtail

Superb Fairy-wrens

Pied Cormorant

Australasian Darter

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
