Birds at Bicentennial Park – 22 September 2018

I spent an interesting day at Bicentennial Park at Homebush Bay – mainly photographing the birdlife. The afternoon before I had been at the Landing Lights Wetland and had seen some of the migratory birds had arrived. I thought there may be also some of these at Bicentennial  Park. This turned out to be correct.

Sharp-tailed Sandpipers

Here are some of the birds I saw. First the usual residents –

White-headed Stilts

Red-necked Avocets

And two of the migratory birds –

Sharp-tailed Sandpiper

Bar-tailed Godwit

And some of the other birds in the park –

Superb Fairy-wren

Willie Wagtail

Australasian Grebe

Pied Cormorant

Red Wattlebird

There was also a pair of Ravens collecting nesting material. One of the birds was doing a reasonable job, the other was trying too hard. It was picking up sticks too large, only to then drop them.

I also spotted a Blue-tongued Lizard lurking in the boulders.-
