I spent a very pleasant day photographing Wollangmabe Canyon. I was on a trip with Albert. The trip was supposed to be more of a social trip rather than a photographic one, but an adverse weather forecast resulted in the others dropping out – which left Albert and myself. This would allow us plenty of time to stop for photos along the way without holding others up.
We visited the “Tourist Section” of the canyon. During the day, it was misty higher on Mt Wilson and there was a bit of drizzle on and off. It was also cool. But, the canyon was very pleasant. The water was not cold. The lighting was soft – nice for photography.
The section of Wollangambe Canyon that we visited is a series of long pools. Above are towering walls of sculptured sandstone. The pools are punctuated by jumbles of boulders and twisted Water Gums. The canyon experiences a lotto visitors – particularly during school holidays in summer. But on our trip we saw no other parties.
Here are some photos of the canyon –
Along the canyon, several side canyons join the Wollangambe. We went up one of these, one known as Water Dragon Canyon. This short side excursion is well worthwhile as the canyon is very dark and narrow.
Water Dragon Canyon
Below the Water Dragon junction is the last of the long pools of the “Tourist Section”.
Then the climb out and walk back along the fire road to Mt Wilson. This was very beautiful in the mist.
