Out with the Mudlarks – 10 September 2019

I was able to join in with the Mudlarks again, for their monthly bird survey along the Cooks River.

Here are some of the birds we spotted on the walk upstream to the Boat Harbour –

Red Wattlebird

Oriole

Chestnut Teals

Great Cormorant

Australian Pelican

At the Boat Harbour, we spotted our first pair of Tawny Frogmouths –

And some of the other birds nearby –

Little Black Cormorant

Little Black Cormorant

Ww then crossed the river and after a visit to Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands, we started downstream. We spotted a second pair of Tiny Frogmouths. One (the male?) sitting on a nest –

And some of the other birds –

Australian Raven gathering nest material

Great Egret

Magpie Lark

White-faced Heron

Figbird

Striated Heron

We were surprised to see a Caspian Tern flying down the river  –

We then had morning tea. It had been an interesting survey.

  1. Alex Rogers says:

I quite often see a solitary Caspian Tern ranging up and down the river in the mornings – he does seem out of place, but apparently quite happy. Haven’t spotted the striated heron yet, so will keep an eye out for him.
