Greenway Bird Survey – 11 September 2019

I was again able to join members of the Inner West Environment Group for their monthly bird survey on The Greenway between Taverners Hill and Hawthorne Light Rail Stations.

We met at Taverners Hill Station -and the platform being high up was a good place to look for birds – and it was from there that we spotted quite a few species. We then descended to the path and continued north towards Marion Station and then Hawthorne Station.  Here are some of the birds we saw along the first bit –

Fan-tailed Cuckoo

Golden Whistler

Bulbul

Red Wattlebird

We saw quite a few Superb Fairywrens. Here are two –

And some Willie Wagtails.

We also spotted a nesting Currawong right above the path –

Past Marion, in the more open area, we saw a group of New Holland Honeyeaters –

And a Red-rumped Parrot –

And a pair of Figbirds –

In a closed off area, we saw a nesting pair of Tawny Frogmouths –

The morning finished with coffee. A very pleasant start to the day.
