Mid Mountains Heritage Walk – 13 September 2019

Bob and myself headed up the mountain by train and got off at a station in the mid mountains. Our objective was to walk out and explore the ridges for Aboriginal heritage sites. We then intend to cross a gorge and walk to the station at a different town.

This worked out well walking wise,  and we did find quite a few interesting sites. Our total distance was in the order of 20 – 24 kms. I expect a lot of these sites are sensitive and so I am deliberately being vague with location details.

We walked out a fire road, past lots of nice wildflowers, and at various points checked out rock platforms on either side. We did find quiet a few sets of sharpening grooves.

At one platform, it looked like here was a small engraving. Perhaps an emu footprint?

At one point, on the fire road, was  a nice Diamond Python. We later saw second Diamond Python, in the front yard of a house, on the way to the Station on our way home.

There were also some good views –

More rock platforms and more sharpening grooves –

And what looked like stone arrangement –

We also looked a lot for overhangs with art. We only found one art cave – some ochre drawings of emu feet, in a small overhang –

This is an area I am sure we will return to as there looks like there is a lot more to find.
