It had been a while since I had visited Bushells Lagoon near Wilberforce. Like previous visits, I caught a train to Windsor and then cycled out to the Lagoon. I had good trip, and had the place to myself for the first hour or so.
As always, there were lots of birds around. On the laneway to the Lagoon, I had seen some Dusky Woodswallows. Here are some mating –
And some of the other birds –
Whiskered Tern
Australasian Grebe
Great Egret
Cattle Egret
White-plumed Honeyeater
Australian Hobby
Black-shouldered Kite
Australian Reed Warbler
Little Grassbird
Australian Darter
White-faced Heron
Welcome Swallow
Tree Martin
Willie Wagtail
Black Swans
Superb Fairywren
Eurasian Coots
Australian Pelicans
Perhaps the most unusual sighting was an Echidna swimming across the Lagoon.
On the ride back to the station at Windsor, I visited another small lagoon. Here there were some waders – Sharp-tailed Sandpipers and Pied Stilts –
Hi David good to see these photos of Bushells Lagoon. I shared your echidna sighting(credited) on my Facebook page, hope that’s ok. I saw a platypus just over a year ago, though was not quick enough to capture it. Frankly I was a bit gobsmacked.
Thanks for sharing.
Sharyn
It’s always nice to see a platypus, but you do expect them in water, but I didn’t expect an echidna. First time I have seen one swimming. Googling later showed this behavior is rare but not unheard of.
