My previous visit to Nurragingy Reseve had been very fruitful – with lots of nice birds to photograph. I was keen to return and check the progress of the Azure Kingfishers, to see if their young had fledged.
When I arrived I went to where I had seen the pair of Azure Kingfishers on my previous visit. All was quiet this time – no sign of them. So decided to do a walk around the perimeter fire trail. On this circuit, I spotted some nice birds. First a Black-faced Cuckooshrike –
And a Mistletoebird in Mistletoe –
Nearby, was a Scarlet Honeyeater –
Also, a Superb Fairy-wren.
And a pair of Eastern Spinebills.
Another bird I spotted was a Yellow-faced Honeyeater.
Last, a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets –
Back at the creek, I was fortunate. The Azure Kingfishers were now around and fetching fish for their young.
After they left the area, I had a look in the Duck Ponds. Here is an Australasian Grebe.
Back at the creek, the Kingfishers were back, having resumed their fishing and feeding.
Another young bird was being fed. A fledgling Common Myna. It was very demanding for food. One parent fed it, and then it kept calling for more. The second parent then fed it.
Back to the Azure Kingfishers –
They both returned with food at the same time. Who was going to deliver it to the nest first?
The left one solved the problem, by eating its fish.
So, the second one flew over closer to the nest.
Not long after, both turned up again with fish.
This time, the one on the right ate its fish.
It then regurgitated it up again!
I then made another circuit of the perimeter fire trail. This time was quieter. I heard, then saw a Grey Butcherbird –
And another Superb Fairy-wren –
Some more lorikeets. This time some Musk Lorikeets with the Rainbow Lorikeets. They were having a drink.
It was now getting quite warm. I found a shady place to have lunch. When I had finished, I checked out to see if Azure Kingfishers were back. No. So I made a third trip around the perimeter fire trail. This time I spotted an Eastern Spinebill –
And a nice Rufous Fantail.
It was now too hot to stay in the reserve, so I made my way back to Doonside Station and caught a train home.
