Fungi in the Lane Cove Valley – 19 February 2020

I had a pleasant and interesting walk down the Lane Cove valley following the Great North Walk track from Thornleigh Oval to Browns Waterhole, and then I went up the track along Terrys Creek to Eastwood.

A reasonable amount of fungi was out. Here are some of the more interesting things that I found.

Not far down the river, a lot had a lot of Xylaria hypoxylon

But while photographing these, I noticed there were also lots of very small discs –

Here is the common jelly fungus – Tremella mesenterica-

I met a team of tow NPWS workers clearing the fire road of fallen trees. They showed my this Bearded Dragon. It had remained on the log while they chain-sawed it!

Here is a Brown Gerygone

The nest two look like Trogia sp.

on Terrys Creek I found a cluster of these light blue fungi. I think they are Arrhenia chlorocyanea, although that species is often a lot deeper blue.

Near, where some similar looking species, but without the blue tint. Perhaps Arrhenia sp.?

Further along, on a log, I found this jelly fungus –

I have seen this species before on the Lane Cove River. It does not look like anything in the local guidebooks. I think it may be Guepiniopsis sp. Here are some more examples –

Another strange fungus was this one. It was growing near some roots.

I have seen Aphelaria look like this at an early stage. But I don’t think that is what it is.

Here are some more –

And a slime mould –

And the small waterfall in Terrys Creek –
