Greenway Bird Survey – 11 March 2020

I joined the local bird group for their monthly early morning survey along the Greenway – between Taverners Hill and Hawthorne Light Rail Stations.

Topknot Pigeon

Taverners Hill Station is high above the ground level – and the height provides a good view into the canopy of nearby trees. A out of birds are recorded here and not at other places along the Greenway. This morning was no exception. The highlight on the morning was a Topknot Pigeon.

This is the first of these strange looking birds I have seen in the Inner West. Some of the other birds seen at Taverners Hill Station were Silvereyes and Spotted Pardalotes

Along the path along the Hawthorne Canal, we saw Red Wattlebirds and later on Australian Figbirds (amongst others) –

Between Marion Street Station and Hawthorne Station, some of the birds we saw included Welcome Swallows, Rainbow Lorikeets, and a female Australian Figbird.

As usual, the survey ended with coffee at the cafe in the dog area near the station.
