I plan to spend a full day in the Chatswood area, visiting two sites to look at fungi in the morning and then to walk along the Lane Cove River in the afternoon to see the Ospreys. For the fungi, I visited Ferndale Park and then Blue Gum Creek Reserve.
Ferndale Park Fungi
I was mainly looking to see what waxcaps were out. I didn’t see too much difference from my previous visit 8 days earlier. If anything some of the fungi had gone and not that much new had emerged. Here are the waxcaps –
Gliophorus chromolimoneus
Hygrocybe sp.
Hygrocybe cantherellus
Gliophorus graminicolor
Many odd these were ones I had photographed 8 days earlier.
This one is fresh
Humidicutis sp. The Ferndale Park – Green-pink waxcap
I only found one of these, and I think it is one I photographed last visit. Not that different.
Hygrocybe anomola var. anomola
On my previous visit, I had seen some rainbow coloured corals. They did not seem too much different. I still think it is likely they are Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea that have been infected. The rainbow ones have the right base colour, its the pink bit that may have been infected.
Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea
And here is some fresh Ramaria lorithamnus
I then headed over to Blue Gum Creek Reserve and searched close to the creekbed below the scout hall. The fungi was not too bad, and I think it wold have been better a week earlier.
Blue Gum Creek Fungi
Here are the waxcaps
Hygrocybe anomola var. ianthinmarginata
Gliophorus graminicolor
There were lots of these, but most were a bit old.
Hygrocybe reesiae
Hygrocybe sp.
Hygrocybe aurantiopallens
Hygrocybe anomola var. anomola
And I found this cluster of what may be Humidicutis sp. The Ferndale Park – Green-pink waxcap. If so, ist the first time I have seen it outside of Ferndale Park. I will need to look for more in this valley and see how this one changes. It has the right colour and shape.
On my way down the track to the Lane Cove River, I came across a cluster of Hygrocybe austropratensis –
And now for some of the corals. These look like Ramariopsis simplex –
Look at the base of this white club –
Here is the base magnified. There seems to be a very tiny species of club growing. More observations needed!
And the rainbow coloured one which I think is infected Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea
I think this is Clavulinopsis amoena –
And some small orange discs –
And on the track out, a nice Greenhood Orchid –
While walking down the valley to see the Ospreys, I met Sharon and Born, two other fungi photographers. They were just about to walk up to Ferndale Park.
Just discovered your site, what a great collection of pics and stories. I too like to photograph the orchids, fungi, plants and birds(I like Powerful Owls) that we have in the bush around Sydney, particularly Ryde and Lane Cove areas. You have given me some new places to explore.
Oatley Park looks like a great place to visit as well. Didn’t realise there are so many orchids out this time of the year, thought they were more warmer weather plants.
