I was able to join the Mudlarks – the Cooks River Bird Group for the monthly survey. The group meets at the Lang Road bridge at 7:30 am during winter, and on this month we surveyed the area downstream.
We found a good selection of birds, and 32 differs species were recorded. Here are some of them –
Welcome Swallow
Galah
Cattle Egret
These Egrets are are rare visitors to the city, and this one was being harassed by a Noisy Miner.
Here is a Magpie Lark (Mudlark) returning wiht nesting material –
Australian Wood Ducks (and White Ibis)
Little Pied Cormorant
Eastern Rosellas
Olive-backed Oriole
Dusky Moorhens
Another seldom seen bird in the area, a Nankeen Night Heron –
This bird was roosting in the foliage at the back of the Dibble Avenue Waterhole. David Hair has amazing spotting abilities!
White-faced Heron
The group finishes with morning tea back at the picnic area near the start. I missed out this time as I was joining a group heading out onto Malabar Headland.
