On the trip to Boorowa, Digi Dave and myself, made a trip into the nearby township to visit the Superb Bakery and Lollyshop, and also to look for Superb Parrots. Roger said he often sees them at the property (as well as Rainbow bee-eaters) – but we didn’t find them there this time.
Roger had suggested we visit the Redhill Reserve on the east side of the town, but we could not find it on the map, nor any mention of it at the town tourist display area (which ad a lot of interesting railway history). But on our way out of town, later on, as were leaving, we spotted it. We had searched for “Red Hill” rather than “Redhill” – and it on the east side – but in the town rather than in the hinterland. Its a reserve that occupies one whole block in area and contains natural bush.
We first had a look at the Boorowa River near the caravan park. Then we tried to visit the local weir – but there was a locked gate on the road to it. Then Digi Dave suggested we look at the Showground, which was nearby. Bingo! We spotted some Superb Parrots hanging out with some Eastern Rosellas. They are very beautiful birds.
We then had a look at an old railway bridge.
The tracks look a bit wonky! Boorowa was on a branch line from Yass.
Nearby, I spotted a Grey Shrike-thrush in the grass.
And a Kestrel was hovering not far away.
We later did a walk along the river, back near the caravan park. Here is an Eastern Rosella –
It was starting to look a little stormy. Time to get back to Roger’s place.
