Oatley Park Visit – 7 October 2020

It had been a while since I had visited Oatley Park. I thought it would be nice to see what birds and wildflowers were out. My is it was cut short a bit by showers, but I did find some nice birds and a lot of orchids.

I walked to Lime Kiln Bay from Mortdale Station, and then walked around the wetlands and along the track to the west side of the bay. Then I went to Frog Hollow, and up the track towards the Adventure Playground. Part way up, I took the side track that headed north, and followed it through a nice grove  of trees. After having lunch, I continued up to the top park entrance, and down the track to Jewfish Bay. Then it started raining, so I continued on to Websters Lookout and back down the road to Lime Kiln Bay, along to he wetlands again and back to Mortdale Station.

Here are some of the birds I saw –

Striated Thornbill

Chestnut Teal (chicks)

Variegated Fairy-wrens

Crimson Rosella

Grey Butcherbird

And a few of the orchids –

I found these Bearded Orchids in many places –

I only found these Flying Duck Orchids at one spot –

Near to them were a few rock orchids – Dendrobium linguiforme

And I found more near Jewfish Bay.

And some more photos –
