This was another great day spent photographing birds at Emu Green at Emu Plains.
On the walk up from the station, I looked out at the Whistling Kite nest. I could see one perched near the nest.
Then, the second one flew in with a small stick to add to the nest.
As I walked into Emu Green, I spotted this New Holland Honeyeater –
Then, here is a Golden-headed Cisticola belting out its call –
Then a Grey Goshawk flew past at speed. This is the first one I have seen at this spot.
Further along was a Chestnut-breasted Mannikin –
Further along the path, I could hear a Sacred Kingfisher. I spotted one perched on the overhead wire.
Then I spotted a distant raptor – I think it was one of the nesting Whistling Kites.
Then a second Sacred Kingfisher appeared.
As did a pair of Rainbow Bee-eaters.
Another raptor flew past. I think this one is a Brown Goshawk.
Back to the Bee-eaters –
One of them coughs up a pellet –
I wanted to get some better photos of the Kingfishers – not ones on the wires.
Eventually one flew in the dead bush that the Bee-eaters often use.
I moved closer.
But the view was obscured by the branch. When I moved to get a better view, the Kingfisher flew off.
Here is a Red-browed Finch –
The Grey Goshawk flew past again.
Back in the forest, I spotted this Brown Gerygone –
A turtle in the river –
And now some Zebra Finches –
A Rufous Whistler –
Another Golden-headed Cisticola –
This New Holland Honeyeater is doing an amazing job hanging on –
Another Chestnut-breasted Mannikin –
And there first White-cheeked Honeyeater I have seen at Emu Green –
Here is a Golden Whistler –
Another Red-browed Finch –
One Rainbow Bee-eater was still around –
A Silvereye –
And a Peaceful Dove –
Then the Rainbow Bee-eater caught a Dragonfly.
It almost got away!
This bird is a female Scarlet Honeyeater –
Some more Red-browed Finches –
I spotted another Chestnut-breasted Mannikin on the path –
It must have found something good, for it was soon joined by the rest of the flock.
As I was walking out, I spotted some Brown Quail –
And a male Scarlet Honeyeater –
And a few last photos of the Whistling Kites –
