Malabar Headland – 8 November 2020

It was really great to finally see a newly fledged Peregrine Falcon chick on this visit. On the previous two years, I had seen chicks about month earlier, and had begun to think that if the breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons had any chicks this year, then that may not have survived.

When I arrived at the nesting area, I soon spotted one of the adult birds. It was perched on one of the usual rocks.

But I could also see another Peregrine Falcon perched on the clifftop further back.

When I approached, I could see it was a juvenile.

With the adults you often get anode that they are about to take off. The juveniles give little hint. I missed it taking off.

It flew a along way along the cliffs and I lost sight of it. I went back to the adult.

It too eventually decided to take off.

Ir flew around a bit. I then wandered along the cliffs and spotted the juvenile.

The adult flew past to check all was OK.

I waited to see if the juvenile would fly.

It did, but again I missed its take-off. But it did some nice flying.

It landed on another ledge, and it stayed there for the rest of my visit.

The adult was back at its stance.

And the juvenile was still in its spot.

Here is a different view of the juvenile –

The adult did a couple of laps of the cliffs.

I then headed home, on the way stopping to photograph one fo the Superb Fairy-wrens –

And some Turtles –
