Out with the Mudlarks – 10 November 2020

I was up early in the morning in order to join the Mudlarks, the Cooks River Bird Group for their monthly survey. This month they would survey upstream from Ewan Park.

Australasian Figbird

We saw a good selection of birds along the river. Here are some –

Grey Butcherbird

Australasian Figbird

Pacific Koel

Magpie Lark nest

Tawny Frogmouths at the Boat Harbour

Rainbow Lorikeet using a nest box

What is inside this hollow? Probably a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo chick.

Rainbow Lorikeets

Little Black Cormorants

Pelican

Noisy Miner fledglings

Dusky Moorhen chick at Cup and Saucer Creek Wetland –

And a Dusky Moorhen family along the river –

Tawny Frogmouth family at Boat Harbour is about 30 metres South (down stream), on other side of track on horizontal limb near the houses that are close to the track. The whole family is sitting together in a row. 18 Nov at 3pm.

Thanks for that information, but I was with friends earlier today, around 11 am, and we had soon found them. I thought it likely they may be in that area, as I had seen them perched there on previous years after chicks had fledged. They seem to be doing well. No change to the Younger Avenue pair, but the Tawnies near Gough Whitlam Park have at least one chick now.
