Canyoning in the Northern Blue Mountains – 11 February 2021

This was another nice day of canyoning with Bob and Nipper in the Northern Blue Mountains. On the day we visited three canyons that were close to each other and this enabled us to complete an interesting loop.

The first canyon, was reached after a fairly short walk. This canyon was not very long but it featured a number of short waterfalls into deep pools. In a few places we used a rope to assist us on the drops. Other parties may choose to jump all of them.

Part way through he canyon we encountered a family of Rufous Fantails.

We then climbed out of that creek and crossed a ridge to another nearby canyon. We entered this canyon a bit low, and missed some of it.

Near the end, I spotted this nice fungus –

Neither Bob nor Nipper had visited these canyons before. The third canyon was not far away and this one was more familiar.

In the canyon, I bumped into Moss (Steve Moon) and his wife, Colleen. Moss is an old friend that I had not seen for a few years. Back in the 1970’s we had been on some classic trips together such as the first traverse of the Yodellers Range and the Western Arthurs in winter.

We then exited the canyon and walked back to Nipper’s car. On the way back down the mountains, we stopped off to look at some of the pink Flannel Flowers –

    Hello Dave
Where abouts do you access these three canyons from? Are they not named?
    Thank you.

    • Dave Noble says:

The canyons do have names, but I have deliberately not named them or described their locations. Canyoning ethics.

        Ok sorry. Yes of course!
I just asked as you do name some Canyons but I’m guessing you just name the super popular ones!

I’ve got a long list/and book of ones that I’m going to do.
Would you share if I emailed you instead?
