Birds at Sydney Olympic Park – 10 March 2021

In the afternoon, after the Greenway Bird Survey, I headed with my bike to Sydney Olympic Park.

I went by train to Strathfield North and then cycled down to the Mason Park Wetlands. I didn’t see any notable birds there, so continued on. In the concrete creek nearby I spotted a Great Egret. It looked like it was fishing. I stopped to see if it would catch anything.

I waited for it to lunge after a fish.

I could see a fish jump out of the water.

But there were two fish, and the Egret had one.

A Pelican was also fishing –

I then cycled down to the Waterbird Refuge at Bicentennial Park. The afternoon light was not favourable for photography. Here is a Sharp-tailed Sandpiper

And one fo he many Pied Stilts

I then continued to Wentworth Common and the Brickpit without seeing too much of interest. I then went to Woo-la-ra. I didn’t see any raptors, but could hear some Golden-headed Cisticolas. I went closer and waited and was able to get some reasonable photos.

This one lands on a highpoint – and then belts out it’s call in all directions.

The sun was now lower at the Waterbird Refuge, and I photographed some Black-fronted Dotterels

Nearer the path was a Red-browed Finch

And there was a Little Egret

Back i Wentworth Common I photographed this Superb Fairy-wren

And a Buff-banded Rail made a brief appearance.
