Fungi at Ferndene – 8 May 2021

I had finished the walk in Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park with Roger. He was heading back to Sydney. I was in Tasmania for an extra week and this gave me a chance to spend some time visiting my sister and brother in law at West Ulverstone. While there, the weather was mixed, but we made the most of it – visiting some nearby sites to photograph fungi on some of the days.

The first day, I headed out with my sister, Alicson, to the Ferndene State Reserve at Penguin. This is at the base of the Dial Range and is excellent fungi habitat. Recent rain should mean we could expect good fungi. The fungi turned out to be very good indeed.  We were lucky to time our visit between rain storms.

First some waxcaps. Hygrocybe firma

Porpolomopsis lewelliniae

Hygrocybe apricosa

Trogia aff.straminea

Mycena mulawaestris

Mycena interrupta

Tricholomopsis rutilans

Clavulina cristata

Helotium tasmanicum species complex

Dacrymyces cupularis

These tiny white mushrooms were covered in droplets –

Dentipellis tasmanica

I am not sure what this one is –

Mycena cystidiosa

Boletellus sp.

Hypholoma sp.

Tremella fuciformis

Mycena aff. epipterygia

Mycena albidocapillaris

Ramaria sp.

Mycena albidocapillaris

Vibrissea dura

Psilocybe subaeruginosa

Mycena aff. mamaku

Chlorociboria aeruginascens

Clavulina subrugosa

As well as the fungi, we observed a number of these long thin nematode worms – Canary Worm, Fletchamia sugdeni

When it started to rain heavily we headed out. It had been short but very good excursion.

Many thanks to Elaine McDonald and Herman Anderson, members of the Tasmanian Fungi Facebook Page for providing i.d’s and correcting my mistakes.
