Bola Creek and The Forest Path – Mainly Fungi – 1 June 2021

I had a nice day in Royal National Park, walking down from Waterfall Station via the Couranga Track to the Hacking River, and then walking around the Forest Path, with detour upstream at Bola Creek. I as mainly on the lookout for fungi.

Looking at rainfall data (for Audley), it looks like that area had a lot more rain than other parts of Sydney during recent weeks, so I thought it may be good for fungi. I did find a fair bit out – but not as much, and not as fresh as I was hoping for.

It was a pleasant walk down from Waterfall Station. On the Couranga Track I could see faint remnants of mist in the valley.

I was hoping to see some fungi out along the Couranga Track like I did last year. No luck this time.

At the Hacking River, the water level was low enough for me to cross on rocks, rather than taking my shoes and socks off and wading across. that was nice. On the forest path, I walked the quick way to Bola Creek (anticlockwise). Once at Bola Creek, I walked upstream. Early on I spotted some Hygrocybe aurantipes, in the same place I had seen them a few years ago.

Nearby I saw a few rather old and dried Hygrocybe austropratensis

And a small patch of Red waxcaps, probably Hygrocybe miniata

Crossing Bola Creek and walking upstream. I found more waxcaps. Here are some Hygrocybe reesiae

And a cluster of Hygrocybe auratiopallens

I did find some Gliophorus graminicolor

Hygrocybe anomala var. ianthinmarginata –

I think this one is Hygrocybe cantherellus

And this may be Hygrocybe collucera

Tricholomopsis rutilans –

And a Greenhood Orchid (Pterostylis grandiflora) –

Back to fungi. This is probably Ramaria xanthosperma var.australiana

Back downstream near the picnic area, I checked the area near Lady Carrington Drive. I found these old Gliophorus gramincolor

and some more red waxcaps, Hygrocybe sp.

Some corals, Clavulinopsis sulcata

Ramaria lorithamnus –

Clavaria fragilis –

And I saw this nice Lyrebird foraging –

I then went to the picnic area for lunch. Nearby were some Hygrophorus involutus

Hypholoma fasciculare –

I then started walking back to Waterfall via the rest of the Forest Path. I found a nit more fungi.

Hygrocybe sp.

Plectania campylospora –

Ramariopsis simplex –

Gliophorus graminicolor –

A Polypore –

Ramariopsis kunzei –

Hygrocybe miniata –

Hygrocybe sp.

Aleuria rhenana –

I also spotted a few more orchids. Here is Acianthus fornicatus

And another Greenhood Orchid (Pterostylis grandiflora) –

Walking back to Waterfall Station, I saw quite a few birds. Here are some –

Silvereye –

Eastern Yellow Robin –

Another good day.
