Barton Park Bike Ride – 15 July 2021

Day 19 of lockdown. My exercise break was an afternoon bike ride along the Cooks River to Barton Park and back.

I took a camera with me and was on the lookout for birds. I didn’t stop for any photography until I got to Landing Lights Wetland at Barton Park. The tide was quite high along the Cooks River.

Here are some birds I saw at Landing Lights Wetland.

White-faced Heron

Golden Whistlers

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Superb Fairy-wren

Grey Fantail

Yellow Thornbill

Red-browed Finch

Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike

Pied Stilts

Golden-headed Cisticola

You see this one flying up to grab an insect.

White-plumed Honeyeater

Not a good photo, but the first I have seen at this location.

I then headed up to the higher area of Barton Park.

Yellow-rumped Thornbill

White-browed Scrubwren

Golden-headed Cisticola

It was starting to look a bit stormy, so thought it time to ride back home.

Before heading home, I bumped into Daniele, another bird photographer, who was also exercising at the park. We compared notes to what birds we had seen.

On the ride home, I stopped at Tempe Station carpark to watch a Little Egret hunting in the creek –

Just past Gough Whitlam Park, it started raining quite heavily, so I didn’t see too many more birds after that.

It had been a nice ride, and the birds I had seen were somewhat different to those I had seen on previous visits.
