Back to Sydney Park for the Rails – 28 August 2021

Day 63 of Lockdown. My exercise this day, was a bike ride to Sydney Park and back. While at Sydney Park, I spent a bit of time observing some Buff-banded Rails and a Lewin’s Rail. One of the Buff-banded Rails was around for a fair while, the second appeared briefly just on dusk. The Lewin’s Rail visit was too brief for me to get a photo.

I think I arrived at the Park around 3 pm, and first photographed some of the other birds. Here are some –

Black Swan Cygnets

These are 2 of the 4 surviving cygnets. They are certainly getting much larger.

Australasian Grebes

I only saw two Grebes this visit.

Welcome Swallows

Buff-banded Rails

One was around in the muddy area, on and off, between 4 pm and 5:45 pm when I left. The second was only around from about 5:20 pm.

While I was at the park, it was good to bump onto some climbing friends that I had not seen for a while – Asaph and Megan and their two children on an exercise walk, and Danny, also out for a walk.
