Day 77 of lockdown. A warm and sunny day. I decided to do another walk along the Cooks River rather than take my bike. But I did take my camera.
I walked down to the Cooks River and then followed the path downstream. Unusually, I did not spot any Kingfishers as I walked downstream from Illawarra Road. It was high tide though.
Here is an Australasian Figbird I spotted early on –
And here is a Little Pied Cormorant coming in to land on a perch.
At Wanstead Reserve, the Spoonville population is growing –
Nearby, an Australasian Darter was perched in the mangroves –
I didn’t visit Waterworth Park on this walk, but instead proceeded straight to the footbridge over the Cooks River at Tempe near the Princes Highway. On the bridge I stopped to photograph some of the Fairy Martins –
I walked all the way along the foreshore at Cahill Park and a short way into Kogarah Golf Course. I was hoping to see the Osprey again. But I had no luck.
I walked back to Cahill Park. Here is a Raven being harassed by Noisy Miners.
I then crossed the Giovanni Brunetti Bridge to the airport side of the river. Walking over this bridge is better than riding since you can stop and take some photos of the great view. Here we are looking towards the city up the Alexandria Canal.
And here is a panorama showing the Cooks River and Alexandria Canal. You can see the towers of Wolli Ck and just across is Tempe Reserve.
Further along the Alexandria Canal – here is a photo looking at the point on Tempe Reserve.
A lot of good bird habitat is being destroyed to make way for the new Gateway – part of West Connex I think.
Here are some photos from the bridge over to Tempe Reserve. First a pair of Great Cormorants being harassed by a Noisy Miner.
A Pied Cormorant fishing in Alexandria Canal –
And some Welcome Swallows –
I then did a circuit of Tempe Wetlands. It was reasonable quiet. Here is a Grey Fantail –
And a Superb Fairy-wren –
I then slowly walked around Tempe Reserve, having a lunch break near the point. No Ospreys! But I did see this nice Blue-tongued Skink –
Near the Princes Highway, I crossed over agin to Cahill Park and found a nice shady place to wait for a while. I did some reading, but no Osprey appeared.
Back across the river, I did see this Pied Cormorant with a good fish –
Lots of people were out in kayaks and canoes. Here are some in Wolli Creek –
A few last birds from Marrickville Golf Course. A Willie Wagtail –
Part of huge flock of Little Corellas –
