Birds at Sydney Park – 17 September 2021

Day 83 of lockdown. I went on a very enjoyable outing with Valerie, wandering around Sydney Park, looking to see what birds were out.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Pacific Black Ducks

The one above was in one of the ponds. The family below were in the stream between two of the ponds.

If you look at the photo above, you can see the parent is preening. Look below and you can that soon after three of the chicks are copying the parent’s behaviour.

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos

Australasian Grebes

Black Swans – the Cygnets are growing fast.

Magpie Larks – chicks in a nest with parent nearby.

Australian Reed Warbler

Eurasian Coot

Rainbow Lorikeets

The Lorikeets appear to be eating the tip of the Casuarina.

Tawny Frogmouth

Dusky Moorhens

At one time, a White-faced Heron lands near the Moorhen chicks.

The Heron makes its way closer to the chicks.

But the Moorhen parents react quickly and drive the Heron away.

A Peregrine Falcon flew past at speed. It had a small bird in its talons.

Hardhead

And here is one of the many turtles we saw –

And an odd parrot. I think this one is a pet. It was being fed by someone.

Thanks to Valerie for joining me on the day and helping to spot some amazing birds.

Amazing photos! Isn’t the tawny frogmouth way too cute and the dusky moorhens too lovely?
