Tempe Bird Survey – 11 December 2021

I was heading up to the mountians for the weekend, but not leaving till around noon, so that gave me time to join the Tempe Birdos for their monthly survey.

I joined the group that helped survey the wetlands. It was reasonable quiet compared to previous surveys. But we did see one interesting bird – a Nankeen Night Heron. These are rare visitors to the wetlands.

Here are some of the other birds. First a Willie Wagtail feeding a chick –

Eurasian Coot

Superb Fairy-wrens

Chestnut Teals

And here is a Dusky Moorhen chick –

At Tempe Reserve at morning tea, I photographed this courtship display from a Crested Pigeon –

Then the group surveying the reserve joined us and we had an excellent morning tea.

As we were finishing, we heard the alarm calls from other birds, and looked up and spotted this Osprey flying overhead.
