It is always nice to return to the Coxs River on this weekend in December each year and meet up with the bushwalkers from Sydney University Bush Walkers.
I travelled down to the river, with old SUBW friend Roger. At the carpark in Megalong, we ran into the main party led by Ashley, and also with Sarah and Rob.
We soon walked down along the Six Foot Track to the river. For once it was not a hot day – but rather pleasant walking conditions.
Here is a Noisy Friarbird –
And a Red-bellied Black Snake near the campsite –
The Coxs River was rather high. I think it is the highest I have seen it on one of these Xmas walks. And I have been doing these walks most years since the mid 1970’s.
I spent a bit of time wandering around with my camera and tripod.
The water was also quite cold, so swimming was undertaken, but not for long by most participants.
Then later the kayakers arrived. The were Jiri, Mitch and Shaz. Here is Mitch in action –
And now Shaz –
Around the campfire that evening, fine food and wines were shared. Roger had brought down this bottle –
Nee morning at the campsite –
Some of the sculptured granite on the river –
One thing that seemed more abundant was the nasty weed – Prickly Pear.
It was not all over the place, but I can’t recall seeing it in this area before.
Mots people left the campsite in the early afternoon. On the walk out, we saw two Goannas in different spots.
A very pleasant weekend in the bush. Thanks to Ashley for organising, and also to Roger for a lift up and back.
