Sydney Park and Cooks River Birds – 25 January 2022

It was good to catch up with Valerie and Sue for a nice day out – the morning spent at Sydney Park, then to Gough Whitlam Park on the Cooks River for lunch and a look a for a few more birds along the river.

At Sydney Park, we spotted some nice birds. Its a great place to observe Australian Reed Warblers. Here are some –

On the left are two juveniles calling for food –

Here is a Noisy Miner

Some young Dusky Moorhen chicks –

Magpie Larks –

Welcome Swallows –

Little Pied Cormorant –

And in the same pond – some of the Turtles

We spent a fair bit of time looking for the Tawny Frogmouths that I had spotted the week before but had no luck. We also heard a Lewin’s Rail – but it did not emerge from the vegetation.

These Crested Pigeons seemed to be having a huddle –

What was going on. We assumed two were juveniles and were being fed.

And we spotted a few stinkhorns –

At Gough Whitlam Park, we saw this Australasian Darter

And this Striated Heron wassail sitting on its nest –
