Bola Ck – Fungi and Birds – 1 February 2022

This was an excellent day out enjoying Royal National Park. Digi Dave was keen on a day out and we travelled in his van to the sooth end of Lady Carrington Drive. Our plan was to look for fungi along Bola Creek and then walk around the Forest Path – looking for both fungi and birds.

The fungi was not great in abundance, but we did manage to find some nice species. Here is a selection –

Hygrocybe miniata

Russula sp.

Ramaria sp.

Clavaria zollingeri

Clavulinopsis sulcata

This one is interesting. It has spines rather than gills or pores. Perhaps Sarcodon fuligineoviolaceus.

Cropping in –

I have seen another candidate for Sarcodon fuligineoviolaceus in roughly the same spot in April 2020.

We then had lunch at the Bola Ck Picnic Area. After our break we set off along the Forest Path.

Here is some of the fungi we spotted along the Forest Path –

Humidicutis sp.

Hypholoma sp.

Filoboletus manipularis (Favolus manipularis)

Notice all the little bugs –

Boletellus sp.

Boletellus emodensis

And here is a Water Dragon

A lot of birds were out, most of them calling out and not visible. But at one spot along the track we spotted a great selection of birds.

Yellow-throated Scrubwren

Black-faced Monarchs

Rufous Fantail

Brown-headed Honeyeater

White-throated Treecreeper

White-browed Scrubwren

Lewin’s Honeyeaters

Crimson Rosella

The only orchids we spotted were some Bonnet Orchids – Cryptostylis erecta

This was a really good outing with plenty to see if you take your time and look around. Thanks to Digi Dave for driving down (and for a refreshing cool drink at the end of our walk).
