I had been to Oatley Park recently, and it was fairy soon for a repeat visit, but there was trackwork on many of the railway lines to other places, so that limited my options somewhat. So it was a bus to Sydenham and then a train to Oatley and then the walk to the park. The weather forecast was also not the best, but during the major period of rain, I stopped for lunch in one of the picnic shelters.
I entered via the lower entrance and then walked around the headland track. Here are some photos –
White-faced Heron
Polypore Fungus, perhaps Inonotus albertinii
Rufous Fantail
One of my reasons for visiting the park again, was to try and get better photos of these beautiful birds.
Brown Thornbill
Variegated Fairy-wren
Rounding the headland, I checked the rain radar on my phone and it looked like a wet period was coming. So I headed to the playground and had lunch under shelter. Nearby I saw some stinkhorns.
Aseroë rubra
I then lake around the road loop to the lookouts. From Websters Lookout, I could see this very distant White-bellied Sea Eagle –
Further along I saw some nice white coral fungi, Clavaria fragilis –
And from the next lookout, I could see another raptor – this time an Osprey eating a fish.
I then walked down the road to Lime Kiln Bay. More fungi –
Cantherellus concinnus
Near the footbridge I stopped to watch this Laughing Kookaburra.
It was studying the ground.
It then dived.
It had caught a nice worm.
On the track on the west side of the bay I saw some Greenhood Orchids.
And near the wetlands the usual Water Dragons were out –
A Crimson Rosella was eating in a Casuarina –
And nearby was a Noisy Miner –
Chestnut Teal
Dusky Moorhen feeding a chick
Little Egret
Grey Fantail
Golden Whistlers
I then walked up the road and around the headland track again before walking back to Oatley Station. Just as I left the park it started raining again.
