More Aboriginal Art – 1 April 2022

I went on another outing with Bob. This time also accompanied by Doug and Nipper. Our intention was to look for an Aboriginal Art site close to Sydney. Bob had read about the site in a book, but that book did not specify the location. But he had done some more research as well as looking at online air photos and thought he knew the location of the site.

So we drove to a fire road, and then walked a bit and set off across country towards its possible location. We crossed a creek then climbed up onto a ridge. Upon reaching a small cliffline, we started looking around for the site. According to our notes, it featured an art cave and a nearby area with sharpening grooves and engravings.

It did not take long to locate the cave. The art was very impressive.

Above the cave was an open rocky area. At one side was small creek. Near two of the pools were three sets of sharpening grooves.

And on the rock slab was an art gallery.

A lot of the art was very hard to make out.

We cleared away some of the leaves.

We were all deeply impressed by this site.

We then walked back to Bob’s car. It was still early in the day, so we visited another art site not too far away. This one features rock engravings.

And not far away was a convict engravings “T Quigley”.

And then we visited a third site. More amazing engravings.
