I made a worthwhile afternoon visit to Barton Park. I was lucky this visit in getting a good view of a Swamp Harrier not long after I arrived.
You never know when a bird like this will appear, and you need to be ready with your camera if they suddenly appear. Sometimes they flash past at speed, too fast to get a photo. This time the bird was a bit more leisurely, so I was able to get some reasonable photos.
Seeing the Swamp Harrier was a good start, but it was relatively quiet after that. In the upper area outside the old stadium was the usual Red-browed Finches feeding in the grass.
And in the photo below, you can see one of two Double-barred Finches feeding with the Red-browed Finches. Safety in numbers.
And another common bird at the park – a New Holland Honeyeater.
Then I spotted a Golden-headed Cisticola –
And here is a Yellow-rumped Thornbill feeding in the grass in the old sporting fields.
The Wetlands had been very quiet when I arrived – I could not see single bird! But later a number of Teals arrived and a few Pied Stilts.
And here is a Great Egret feeding near and in the Spring St Canal.
A Superb Fairy-wren –
And I spotted the Swamp Harrier again – but it was flying very high, and it was climbing even more.
And just before I left – a White-faced Heron.
