Waterfall to Heathcote via Uloola Falls – 18 August 2022

This was a pleasant walk in Royal National Park accompanied by Sue. We caught the train to Waterfall and were soon on the fire road to Uloola Falls.

One of the highlights of walking in Royal National Park at this time of year is that the wild flowers are starting to come out.

We also saw a reasonable number of birds.

Crimson Rosella

New Holland Honeyeater

Little Wattlebird

At one of the rock platforms near the fire road, we saw  this small Aboriginal engraving –

And as we were walking along, we disturbed this Wallaby which quickly ran into the scrub.

We even saw a very early Waratah out –

I am always on the lookout for orchids, and was pleased to find this Diuris sp. –

And near the Uloola Falls campsite, we spotted a Lyrebird, but it didn’t wait around for a photo.

We stopped off at Uloola Falls for a snack.

And we visited a nearby Aboriginal site. Here are some sharpening grooves –

And here is one of two fish engravings –

And this looks like a circular engraving –

The second fish engraving –

And more sharpening grooves –

More flowers along the track –

And this Honeyeater

We reached the Karloo Pool in time for lunch. Its a very pleasant place to spend some time. Sue went in for a swim.

We saw a fair few more orchids on the way to Heathcote.

And closer to Heathcote were quite a few Greenhood Orchids.

Seeing so many orchids was a nice way to finish the walk. Thanks to Sue for great company on the walk.
