Mudlarks – Cooks River Bird Survey – 13 September 2022

I was able to join the Mudlarks for their early morning monthly bird survey along the Cooks River. This month the survey was the upstream loop.

During the survey we spotted a good range of birds, including many that were either nesting or already had chicks.

Here are some that we saw –

White-faced Heron

Pelicans

Rainbow Lorikeet

King Parrot

Red Wattlebird

Willie Wagtail on nest –

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Magpie Lark on nest –

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo in hollow –

Grey Butcherbird

We saw a distant Brown Goshawk fly past –

Striated Heron

Under the footbridge near the old Sugar Mill, there was a Magpie Lark nest.

You could look down through cracks in the bridge and see the chicks –

And at the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands there were quite a few chicks.  Here are some Australian Swamphens

Pacific Black Duck

Pied Cormorant

And these Willie Wagtails were making their nest –
