Birds at Emu Green – 2 October 2022

It was a nice warm dry day, so I caught a train to Emu Plains and walked to Emu Green Reserve. I had a late start and didn’t arrive till close to noon. But the birds seemed quite active. Perhaps a bit too active – as many were too fast to stand still for a photo.

On my previous visit, I had seen quite a few raptors. I didn’t see as many this time, but they were still the highlight.

As I walked in, along the lane, I heard, and then saw this Golden-headed Cisticola

New Holland Honeyeater

Eastern Yellow Robin

I looked up and spotted a White-bellied Sea Eagle. It was being harassed by a Raven.

Here are some Red-browed Finches

Perhaps the most frequent bird I saw were Grey Fantails

On the road the abuts the prison farm, I saw this Brown Falcon

And a little further along, I spotted a Brown Goshawk

Another Grey Fantail

And the White-bellied Sea Eagle was a little closer.

Lewin’s Honeyeater

Satin Bowerbird

Sacred Kingfisher

White-browed Scrubwren

Red-browed Finches

Eastern Yellow Robin

Superb Fairy-wren

Brown Thornbill

Silvereye

European Goldfinch

The White-bellied Sea Eagle was back.

Then I noticed a second Sea Eagle –

I was hoping to get the two Sea Eagles in the one shot, but then I spotted the Brown Falcon again. It was perched in small tree.

And a few birds I saw as I left. A Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike

Common Blackbird
