Wolli Ck and Cooks River Walk – 11 October 2022

After the Mudlarks bird survey, I went looking for a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest in Ewen Park. After finding it, I headed to Permanent Avenue and caught a bus to Bexley North. From there, I made my way down the Two Valleys Track to The Cooks River, and then walked upstream to Illawarra Road.

I saw a good range of wildlife along the way.

At Illoura I photographed some of the Welcome Swallows

Adhere is a Red-browed Finch

This Red Wattlebird is hiding in the foliage –

Superb Fairy-wren

New Holland Honeyeaters

I stopped for lunch in Girrahween Park. Here are some of the birds seen downstream –

White-browed Scrubwren

This Variegated Fairy-wren wanted to stay hidden.

At the old swimming pool, I looked up at the rock orchids (Dendrobium linguiforme)above. It looked like some had been in flower.

I spent some time at the Grey-headed Flying Fox Camp. Many of the female had babies, and I was able to get some photos of them flying with the baby clinging to the parent.

At one point, a Brown Goshawk flew high overhead.

Back to the Flying Foxes –

In Waterworth Park, I saw some Noisy Miners harassing a Laughing Kookaburra.

The harassing stopped when the Kookaburra flew over to join another.

I checked the nesting Tawny Frogmouth in Gough Whitlam Park. It seemed to be doing OK.

I was looking for a Grey Butcherbird nest and I must have been close as I got swooped by this one –

And a little  further along, an Eastern Rosella

At Illawarra Road, I caught a bus to Marrickville shops, then walked home from there.
