I did a late afternoon walk along apart of the Cooks River checking out the bird life. My first stop was at Marrickville Golf Course to see the Tawny Frogmouths. The chick is now quite large and keenly observing its surroundings.
This is the second nesting for this pair of Tawny Frogmouths for the season. They had two chicks a few months ago. I looked for those chicks and could not spot them nearby, nor the second adult (the female).
Further upstream, I saw this Australasian Figbird –
The Boat Harbour was quiet, but crossing over the bridge near the Sugar Mill, I watched this Australasian Darter catching fish –
It then climbed out of the water and started drying its wings.
I then visited the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands. In the lower pool – here is a Dusky Moorhen –
Meanwhile, the Australasian Darter had flown to perch in a nearby tree.
A large flock of Noisy Miners flew over to harass the Darter –
Back at the Wetlands, an Australasian Swamphen –
Pacific Black Duck
Chestnut Teal
Dusky Moorhen chick
I then crossed back over and walked up to Canterbury Road. My last bird was this Laughing Kookaburra –
This had been a plant afternoon walk.
