Sydney Park – 3 February 2023

I had arranged to meet Sue at Sydney Park at St Peters in the afternoon. We had an interesting time, but the birds spotted were a bit disappointing – no Dollarbird, no Kingfisher, no Tawny Frogmouths and no Buff-banded Rail.

But it is still a pleasant place to spend some time and there is always something interesting to see.

Here is a Turtle

There were lots of Dragonflies. Many of them were demonstrating mating behaviour in mid-air. I think they have just mated and then male is holding the female near its head to prevent other male’s copulating with it before eggs are laid.

And there were some birds around too! Here is a juvenile Australasian Grebe

And a parent –

SomeĀ Welcome Swallows

An Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly –

A Little Black Cormorant

There was also a lot of fish, of all sizes, in the ponds.

Thanks to Sue for joining me on the visit.
